Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, today announced that it generated enough electricity during the first half of 2026 to power over 2.6 million U.S. homes. The company, through its nearly 100 operating facilities across half the country, generated 13,891 GWh during the first six months of the year, an 8% increase compared to the first half of 2025.
“Energy demand continues to grow rapidly in the United States and Avangrid is delivering more electricity to meet the needs communities across the nation,” said Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda. “Our fleet of generation projects helped keep homes warm during intense cold to start the year and cool during the summer heat we’re experiencing now, while powering business and industry from coast to coast. We continue to push the envelope in developing new projects that will support our economy, our grid, and the communities we operate in.”
The increase reflects strong performance across Avangrid’s existing fleet and the addition of new generation capacity brought online over the past year.
Avangrid surpassed 11 Gigawatts in installed capacity across its U.S. footprint earlier this year. Recent additions to the company’s portfolio include Bakeoven Solar, Daybreak Solar, and Tower Solar, all in Oregon. These supplement other recently completed projects in California, Ohio, and Texas. Avangrid continues to develop and build projects to grow its capacity further.
While Avangrid projects reliably and safely produce electricity for homes, businesses, and industry, they are also important economic drivers. In 2025, Avangrid’s onshore projects paid a combined $61 million in local tax revenue, supporting public services including education and public safety.
