Today, CoLab unveiled engineering review, a multi-release expansion of the mechanical CAD review experience it’s known for to bills of materials, simulation, ECAD, and a growing range of other engineering data. BOM review ships first in November 2026, followed by simulation and ECAD review in 2027.
“Review is where engineering teams weigh trade-offs and make the complex decisions that shape a program,” said Adam Keating, Co-founder and CEO of CoLab. “As AI speeds up more of the design process, review will still be a bottleneck, unless teams rethink their approach. We are already seeing this in software development. Engineering teams need one standard review process across new product development, and they need it now more than ever.”
CoLab has focused on design review for nearly a decade, building a platform that engineers and their cross functional partners prefer to use over generic communication tools. Global engineering teams at companies including Bombardier, Lockheed Martin, and Schaeffler use CoLab’s MCAD review functionality to shorten review cycles, catch issues earlier, and ship better products. The same kind of collaboration happens around BOMs, simulation results, and electrical designs, and engineering review brings CoLab’s proven process to that work.
Launching in November, BOM review makes the bill of materials a dedicated object in CoLab, so engineering teams can view it side by side with the design itself.
“Engineering teams in fast moving industries like semiconductors and data centers are especially eager to get their hands on BOM review,” commented Keating. “As order volume for these customers grows, managing design complexity without introducing confusion downstream for sourcing and manufacturing is critical. Getting BOMs right is key to that.”
Simulation and ECAD review will follow in 2027. Simulation results are among the most consequential inputs to a design decision, but many teams still struggle to share and communicate about this data.
“Giving customers a way to review more datasets is only the beginning,” said Jeremy Andrews, Co-founder and CTO of CoLab. “When engineering teams have their product data and decision rationale in one place, that will become the foundation for a generative engineering harness. You’re going to see teams maturing concepts much faster – with an understanding of all the real world constraints – using AI.”
Last month, CoLab announced plans to bring generative design into their platform, partnering with companies like nTop for concept design and introducing “AutoFix” to take review feedback and implement it in CAD.
“For nearly 18 months, our biggest customers have been rolling out AutoReview as a central part of their engineering AI strategies,” said Keating. “What we’ve proven throughout that process is that we are the right partner to implement AI across product development. Our advantage is that we’re in the sweet spot: still fast and nimble, but mature enough to handle change management.”
CoLab is CAD- and PLM-agnostic, with out-of-the-box integrations for Windchill, Teamcenter, 3DEXPERIENCE, Creo, NX, and SolidWorks, a distinction that matters more as PLM vendors introduce their own design review tools.
“The last thing customers want, as AI innovation moves faster, is vendor lock,” said Andrews. “We are building a fundamentally open ecosystem.”
About CoLab
CoLab builds AI-powered software for mechanical engineering and hardware development teams. Its EngineeringOS platform helps engineers make better, faster design decisions by connecting people, data, and AI in one collaborative workspace—capturing expert knowledge as a natural part of day-to-day work.
With AI agents built into the platform, CoLab enables teams to apply that knowledge automatically to improve design quality and accelerate product development. Founded in 2017, CoLab is trusted by leading global manufacturers to drive decision velocity and bring better products to market, faster.
